Floor construction
Hey all, new to the forum and potentially will be a jayco owner. I looked at a 2009 jayco eagle 320RLDS. Nearly the whole camper was perfect....except the floor in front of the refrigerator. It had a spot that was soft. My question is, what is the floor constructed of? Is it plywood, osb, or a luan/styrofoam material? I'm confident I can properly repair a plywood or osb floor. But I dont want to buy anything with styrofoam/luan. Thanks for any help or info.

Should be plywood/osb on 16" centers.

Thanks Grumpy, I cant find any info that says it would or wouldnt be osb. The only reason I think it is osb is because it's not an ultra light model. It seems the j feather and ultra light models used a 1&1/2" floor composed of luan/styrofoam.

You can confirm the construction by going inside a concealed corner of a cabinet and boring a hole with a spade bit. Then fill it in with some kind of caulk. You may also just cut a slit in the vinyl floor inside a cabinet if that is what your flooring is made of.
Can you get under the area that is soft? You might be able to reinforce it there and not actually cut the floor open to repair it.

I have a 2012 320RLDS and the floor is 5/8 tongue and grove plywood. So far solid as a rock. Here is some info on your 2009.

Might be able to tell by removing a floor heating duct cover.

Thank you all, I may go back to pull a floor register and see what the floor construction is. I would love to cut some vinyl out of an inconspicuous area but it's not my camper. The only area I noticed is soft is around the fridge like I mentioned. I suspect a clogged refrigerator drain is what caused the issues. The roof, walls both inside and out, and remainder of the floor are solid. Zero delam or water damage anywhere that would be indicative of a leak. I brought the leak to the owners attention and now have them nearly $5,000 under their asking price.

I agree Steve. It's the first out of all the tt/5th wheels I've looked at that that was really a nice unit (aside from the floor obviously). I've been shopping in the $10 -$12,000 range and this is now priced well under that. I understand that theres probably more rotten and water damaged wood than just what I feel but I'm going to go back and give it another look over. If its solid everywhere else, whichbit seemed to be, then I may go for it.

snip..." My question is, what is the floor constructed of?"
According to the 2009 brochure, it's called "TuffShell™ vacuum-bonded laminated sidewall and floor".
The 5/8" tongue and groove plywood was only on the fifth wheels.

That is what had me second guessing whether or not the floor is plywood or osb. What exactly is tuffshell vacum laminated flooring? I cant find much info on it.

The brochure for the ultra light jayco campers of the same year state they use unitized 1&1/2" laminated floor. The brochure for the 320rlds doesnt say that, it also doesnt say plywood either. I guess I'm going to have to take another look.

5/8" T&G plywood is also used on Jay Flight travel trailers.

I believe you'll find the term "vacuum bonded" only applies to the sidewalls. Although I haven't read the 2009 brochure, I'm thinking who in their right mind would vacuum bond a floor, which is a process that involves fiberglass.

The main reason for selecting our NP was the only models that offered tonged and groove flooring for 2017 were the North Point and the Pinnacle.
The Eagle models were called a marine vacuum laminated flooring (sandwiched), and yes on most sandwiched flooring if you remove the floor register and peel the heat tape back you will see it.

You're reading the info for the Super Lite. The OP said it is not a Super Lite.

What ever this Tuffshell is, it's in the 2009 specs for the TT, Super lite TT, and Superlite 5er. (the non-superlite 5er only has it in the walls, and has the 5/8 tongue and groove).

It's a few pages down.

Two screws on the floor heat register, pull it out and you can tell. I confirmed mine was 5/8 plywood this way in about a minute.
