Hitch for Hummingbird

Afternoon all and Happy Holidays.

I have another new guy question. Purchased a Hummingbird a couple of weeks ago and am towing it with a half ton pickup. The trip home from the dealer was fine, all highway and the Hummingbird towed well but the back of the truck was down a little and it did seam to rock a little. Any problems using a equalizing hitch on the hummingbird?

Shouldn't be.. You shouldn't sway. Things will only get worse with the bed of the pickup with gear and the cargo hold of the trailer with gear.

Is there already stuff in your pickup?

No...., but a properly "sized" and adjusted WDH under loaded conditions would be desirable. The Hummingbird models have a light duty A-frame that should be taken into consideration when looking for a WDH....., there may even be a sticker on the A-frame noting possible WDH limits/restrictions.

There are some light duty WDH's that are great for these type of applications.

Also, even with a properly sized and adjusted WDH the TV rear may incur a 1" to 2" squat, this is normal. The WDH will maintain the TV's front axle integrity (via weight distribution) and minimize the porpoising effect.

For future reference (CAT scale weigh-in): http://www.jaycoowners.com/forums/f3...v-tt-3871.html

What I did...

I'm not an incredibly experienced RV guy, but I've towed a lot of boats.... I have an older F150 that I'm towing my new hummingbird with. I installed this system: https://www.etrailer.com/Weight-Dist...4-00-0800.html that I have been very happy with! Took it to the Columbia Gorge the other day and had zero issues... Also replaced my tires with LT Toyo open country A/T 6 plys.. Very happy with this setup--I'd definitely get a hitch system as others have said...

My salesman told me "no" on the hitch but I passed a 2500 swaying a 21ft trailer on my way home--made my decision very fast!

So far I really like the combination of my Andersen hitch and Hummingbird.
