Propane tank gauge whistling?

I went camping this past weekend and heard my propane tank gauge whistling.

I have the brass gauge that fits on the tank and reads green to red.

Is that telling me its empty? But the gauge is still in the green?

Anybody hear this one before?

The only time I've heard propane tanks or regulators making a sound is when they have been overfilled. Not heard this for years. I'm not sure the newer tanks CAN be overfilled, but the older ones certainly could be. 80% full is a good number to allow for expansion.

Silly bunch of comments. When gas is being discharged (to the stove, fridge, furnace) they all give off a sound at the tank. I wouldn't call it "whistling", but I know what you are saying. Sounds like you don't have a problem.
