Sway

I made the mistake to look at the propride web page and now i see their advertizing everywhere lol. If i beleive what they say ill die on my next trip due to sway not controled by me equalizer 4 .

Im not disputing the quality of their hitch but the fear they are trying to induce is a bit over the top.

Ill knock on wood but i never experienced enough sway to put me in trouble. I have to say that i am paranoiac and i have adjusted my hitch by the book.

Now guys how many of you had to change their underwear due to sway ? And after your investigation what was the cause ? It happened to me only once to become unconfortable behind the steering wheel when we were pushed around by heavy wind gust . Its not fun

Have an Equalizer, and never had any sway in 12 years with 3 trucks.

Same here…I have the same Equalizer hitch used on two Tundras pulling the same trailer and NEVER had a sway problem. My tongue weight is 15% of my trailers gross weight, and have LT tires on my truck. I never am bothered by passing semis or crosswinds.

The most common cause of severe sway is light tongue weight combined with high speed and sudden, excessive steering wheel movement. Applying the trailer brakes to reduce speed is the only way to stop the sway.

I will leave texas soon to go back home in montreal ... on my way down here in november i realized that my truck was a bit more loaded and was sqatting little to much but i was within the spec a the front fender .... but since i am paranoiac i decided today to add the last washer i had. I now have 8 washer and with this i managed to return the front to the same exact height taken on the first measurment . My trailer weight about 7750. Tongue weight around 1000..(13%). equaliz hitch good for 1000 / 10000 and the pick up hitch is good for 1050 ... so im maxed out on the ball ...trailer is 1 inch and half higher at the back when all is set ready to go cant wait to try it lol but like for you guys im really please with my hitch since 7 years .TV is a f150 2014 3.5 eco on LT with max tow package and 1997 lbs of payload... so far a good little horse

I think sway is just one part of the white knuckle experience. The “floating” of the truck is another part that leads to sway. I’ve had a cheapo weight distribution hitch (with a 3/4 ton diesel) and the floating of the truck and sway were both horrible. Not quite to the point where I felt like I was going to lose it but close enough. I don’t have an Equalizer but I do have a Weigh Safe and it is rock solid with my 2016 Ram 2500 towing our 38’ Jayco. I’ve had gusts of 20-25 mph cross winds hit the trailer while running 62 mph and I thought for sure I was about to have some sway but nothing. Zero sway. And along the Texas coast it’s almost always windy. I’m probably in the 1300 lb range on tongue weight and that helps but the WD hitch does a great job.

I sm
pretty sure we would have had unhappiness without our Andersen last Monday eith crosswinds of 30 knots gusting to 42
Twice we could feel the trailer brakes being applied over 450 miles yet the trailer never left its lane

I have the 2.7L EcoBoost, pretty close to your numbers with trailer at max #6750 and tongue around #1,000 before WD. I have #1900 of payload. I have a Camco Recurve WD & sway set-up. I've only towed a couple times, short distances, but highway for over an hour. These hitches are something I am not well educated on so went with what was sold and installed for me. I'll need to educate myself in the coming weeks before towing again, so I can truly LOOK at this thing and know what I'm looking at and be able to identify potential issues with the set-up.

My towing frequency needs are low, as well as my trip mileage needs. It did well on the portion of road with the rolling hills of CT. But if I were to travel more and farther, I'd definitely have chosen a heftier truck package.

Good luck on your trip back to Canada and have fun.

I have an equalizer 4, I have had sway twice. Both times I would call my fault. Early one spring season, I did not check my tire pressures with my old China Bombs. When I got home I found the tire pressures were down 10+ or so PSI on all tires. Second time, I probably should not have been on the road. Crazy headwind, something like 50 mph, and my old truck could not do 55 mph, with the foot to the floor. Only times I have had any issues.

My new truck probably does not need a WHD with my TT, but I have it, so I use it. I have it set as light as I can. Installed just for any potential sway moments.

I just order a propride p3....

I,m towing a 2020 jayco 24rL with a ford expedition SSV.

I have an equalizer 4 point now. Never any major sway issues but I can feel every truck that comes by.

I'll let you know if it's worth the $$$$

if the wind can toss ships plane and semi trailer i would think its normal to be pushed with a trailer lol

Its not in my*opinion a bad decision. Its unanimous, peoples who own a propride would not go back to a conventional wdh and antisway hitch . but so far for me my equalizer 4 is more than enough

Have fun and drive safe :-)

For the past 30 years, advertising of anything has become a one trick pony...Fear...Uncertainty...and Doubt. Known as the FUD factor. The only deviation that I've noticed is drug advertising....the ads always are filled with smiling people.

Geez, for the price they want I'll stick with my Equalizer and use the extra $3500 for gas! The price listed on Amazon borders on being ridiculous!

I agree they are ridiculously priced. But in many cases it’s cheaper than buying a new tow vehicle. I’m not a fan of them because they allow some to tow a trailer they otherwise wouldn’t attempt to tow.

I respect everyone's decision, ... but the fear induced by Hensley Propride is priceless, PP would sell their hitches $1000.00 more that than they would sell that many I am convinced

If you were referring to me. I would say bad. When I had low tire pressures, even small little sports cars were pushing me around as they past me. The sever headwind I just remember being white knuckle driving, and we had a deadline we had to make. I also remember as soon as we got off the freeway and changed directions the whole sway issue disappeared. Wish I had changed roads and taken a longer route.

dealer sold me the chain style weight distribution bars and 1 frictions sway controller. Has to pull on the shoulder of the road taking it home in a rain storm that was pushing me all over the place.

only traveled local next few trips; then took a longer trip down the interstate 18 wheelers pushing me every where my camper wagging like a dogs tail going 45 mph.

then i got an Equalizer and never had any more trouble. Also my camper is 30ft long and campers over a certain length should have had 2 friction sways install according to the manual. dealer only sold and installed 1. and really 2 of those would have gotten on my nerves. 1 was bad enough to have to take off every time you wanted to go in reverse.

Guys is your trailer perfectly level when you tow ?
Mine is lower at the front compare to the rear, max an 1 1/2 over 33 feet .

Despite the fact that i have read that the trailer should be level.... im more confident with the nose down a little bit , am i wrong .... the TT tow well in this configuration

I don't believe 1 1/2" over 33' is too much. Better a little low in the front than too high.

Here is a good video on why trailer loading is so important when towing.
