I live in CA and pull the TT at 62 mph. Tried 55 when I'm first bought it but after ywo near wtecks from people trying to pass I changed to 62. Been passed by numerous CHP and they never even glanced over. In all other states cruise set at 63 and I try to stay in right two lanes.

I have towed from 25' TT to 40 ft 5th. Currently 34' 5th. I 100% agree from all the 65MPH tire posts. Have towed the entire country, over 250,000 miles including Alaska. I tow 63 MPH in right lane on cruise control and enjoy the ride. Three blowouts, two of which were soon after I hit something in the road. My opinion that extra few MPH is unsafe and not worth the decreased safety of my DW. Also, I have spent precious little time broke down on side of road.

I know my vehicle is pretty accurate with all of the GPS, computers and all of that other stuff but unless your system is milspec I would say that is probably inaccurate.

If you think your system gets it to that gnats ass good luck. LOL

I run the truck speed limit or 65, whichever is lower. With my tires speed rating being 65, I feel no real compulsion to test the limits.

Just Cruising

We usually run with the semi-trucks and most of them seem to run 65 - 67, that gets us into 10th gear and It seems pretty economical there. You'll still have fast trucks pass and maybe pass a slow one once in a while. I'll slow down if the road gets rough though.

I shoot for 60 -62. Nice sweet spot and keeps my flat tow in the recommended range for towing. If I back up people on a two lane that's listed at 55, then you may pass me anytime you wish. Not an issue unless you have some road rage person.

To me it's not about the "speed" ratings of tires rather the distance/time needed to stop or to take evasive action should the need arise. When we travel a destination goal is set based on a average speed of 50 MPH which allows for fuel/food stops, weather conditions, and known traffic conditions and construction delays.
