Water/waste source

Where do you get water from, and dump waste(sewage), when you are boondocking and not using an RV park. I don’t want to drive super far with the tanks full and we are going from Kentucky to colorado. Can I pay an RV park? Also how do you get rid of regular everyday garbage. We are a family of six and are not able to pack it out on this long of a trip. TIA!

At the top of the page in the gold bar is a search block. There are one or two recent threads on where to find dump stations that include URLs for list across the US. Or just do a Google search for US dump stations. Most dump stations have water also but I have never and will never use that water to fill fresh water tanks. After watching how many people completely contaminate those dump stops there is no way.

That long of a trip, you might want to consider staying in a few RV parks for dumping, water, and shower facilities. I would not want to be hauling that load and guessing where my next recharge is going to be.

What are your referring to when you say you are boondocking and not using an RV park? Are you talking state parks, private property, or Walmart?

Some state rest areas have RV dump stations. State Parks with RV spots will generally have dump stations. Pilot Flying J with RV facilities will have dump stations.

It can be really variable. There are a number of places like Cabella's that have a dump site. Just have to pay a small fee. There are many state parks, municipalities, private CG, and gas stations, that have dump stations. Sometimes you need to pay, sometimes not. Google can be your friend. The weirdest one I have every used, was at a public works facility in some small SE town in Minnesota. Dumping was free. I also was able to buy water from them to fill my FW tank.

We have been at places such as Yellowstone, where the rangers stated (had it in writing), that we could dump our tanks down their Latrines. But that is an issue, as it has to go down the toilet. We carried a very small tote, that two of use could lift and dump. We also made a habit their not to use our on board toilet unless it was at night, so we did not have to dump the black tank.

Trash is easy; If it was clean paper, it became fire starters. Dirty trash, we placed in a small plastic grocery bag. Every day when we went out sight seeing it went in the back of the TV. When we got to an appropriate location, we throw it out, such as a gas station, grocery store entrance, park entrance, rest area. We never let the trash build up, never used a large bag, always made sure it was a small volume, and throw it out every day.

If you try to dump a big trash bag, someone will say something.

Have a great trip.
