Wheel covers?
Are these a good thing, or just over kill? If so would like some recommendations.
Thanks

Useless for the most part. Trailer tires are done long before sun/ozone damage is a factor.

Depends on where you live. If you are in the Southwest like I am then they are definitely worth it as the sun will destroy tires (and anything else rubber and plastic) very quickly if it isn't protected from UV. Honestly a lot of this damage is cosmetic though and just because they are covered and might still look great doesn't mean they will last forever as they will still be affected by everything else that destroys tires. Personally I think they are worth it, but if I lived elsewhere, such as the Pacific Northwest for example, I probably wouldn't bother.

Here in the PNW, the tires on the road side of the trailer get sun most of the year. I put covers on those two.

I store my TT in a storage lot here in Northern California. While I concur that you may not need them, I actually purchased them to not only protect the tires, it also protects the brakes, etc. from excess dirt and dust. With the TT sitting in storage for periods of winds that kick up dust a grime it seems an inexpensive investment for protection. I like the fact that anything that protects my braking mechanism is worth the little bit of money that covers cost.

I find myself in the market for some new wheel/tire covers as my covers from my old fiver will not fit my new unit. Our old Fiver had 235's, new unit has 255's, (covers look like OJ Simpson trying on the glove)
While I do concur that the benefits my be limited especially here in Michigan, but as compared to other things we do to/for our RV's a set of four covers is relatively inexpensive.

Would that not depend on how much you used your trailer

Your wheels don't need to be covered. Your TIRES, on the other hand, might benefit from being covered... especially in Texas.

Four new tires at just under $1000 or four tire covers at $40. It's to cheep for protection not to use them.

Threw my cover away (big tear) but kept the wheel covers.
