You may not need to go that far. It sounds like all the issues were related to the Power Distribution Panel for A/C circuits. The converter is in line after the panel and only powers the 12V circuits and charges the battery.
If sparks were flying, there has been some serious arcing and the panel, breakers and/or wires will need some replacing. Check carefully behind the panel for any signs of arcing and replacing anything that appears to have been affected. It is probably best to leave this to an electrician or licensed tech.
Those Elixirs don't have a great reputation, and it looks like Elixir is no longer in business. It might not be a bad idea to put a better converter in there while the guts are open. Consider one with different battery charge profiles leaving you the option of using more advanced battery types (lithium etc.)
