We have the 23RL (same camper just the 2018 model) and we keep ours between the couch and the cabinets (we have the trifold sofa so it may sit differently than the jackknife). And it works well...

They aren’t safety catches to keep the door closed they are there to keep the door open. They are fire while the fridge is off to prevent mold and mildew buildup inside by venting the interior.
