in addition to what is mentioned above I keep a bottle jack, socket set, breaker bar, low cost torque wrench. Most of this is for tire changing, should that need arise.
I also have electrical tape and eterna-bond just in case.

The correct driver for the funny screws they use. They have a name but I don't know what they're called (takes a square driver).
Tools for a tire change (jack, ramps, 4-way...)
Cheap VOM.
spare fuses.

Non-negotiable must haves: Electrical tape, duct tape, set of wrenches, set of sockets, screw drivers, pliers, channel locks, torque wrench, spare bulbs and fuses, headlight (or flashlight at least).
I carry a 200+ pc (not sure exactly how many pcs) Craftsman mechanic's tool set in a brief-case type box that includes wrenches, screw drivers, sockets in 1/4" 3/8" and 1/2" drive metric and SAE, deep and shallow. To this I have added a torque wrench, and additional sockets and wrenches that fit my hitch components and my lug nuts and wratchet extensions of various lengths. This is my primary tool set at home, I just toss the box in the front storage compartment before we leave.
I also have a small toolbox that lives inside the trailer that has tape, 3-in-1 oil, screw drivers, pliers, spare screws, nuts and bolts, a ratchet set, torpedo level, spare fuses, a spool of wire, insect repellant and probably a few other odds and ends. It lives in the cabinet right by the door, so I barely have to open the door, and don't have to enter the trailer at all to get to my tools. In my rear storage where I keep the water and power items, I have a set of large channel lock pliers, primarily for removing sewer caps at full-hookup sites, but I've found myself using them quite a bit for things other than that...
I don't worry about the weight of it all, it all amounts to less than 70 lbs of tools, which in a trailer that weighs 7500 loaded for a trip is a small price to pay to have the proper tool you need when you need it.

Camper Bob - I am now stalking all your replies.
Had not thought about a toolkit until we read your post above. We have most of the non-negotiables except for the torque wrench. I think I know what it is but why is it needed? Also, what size(s) do we need? Same for sockets.
Thanks,

I've seen that called a machine screw or a Robertson screw.

If something needs a torque wrench to be adjusted correctly I shouldn't be working on it. The rest of the stuff, yeah.

dapoppa - that may be a corollary to my "if I can't pronounce it, I can't afford it".
To me, the torque wrench seems simpler than the duct tape as the wrench almost NEVER gets tangled up with the insane but lovable Homer the Beagle.
Is there a AAA for RV'ers?

This is music to my ears. Do they have torque wrenches?
Thanks for the tip.

I keep the torque wrench for the lug nuts. But the truth is, it lives in my tool box, so it's along for the ride anyway!
You'll have to decide on your own about sockets. I have the sets because that's what I have. The ones I added, I added for specific applications, so I don't know the sizes; just that they work for all the nuts and bolts on my trailer.

My trailer tool box has:
- cresent wrench
- channel lock, needlenose, and regular pliers
- multi-tipped screwdriver
- #2 phillips/ 3/8" flathead
- various left over screws from mods/repairs
- fuses
- electrical tape / duct tape
- manual handle for electric jack
- ZIPTIES.
- hammer
- electrial wire
- wire strippers
- box cutter
- leather gloves
- Navy shot-line (1/8" nylon cord)
Tire changing includes
T-wrench w/ tape around correct size (so I can find it in the dark)

All of this will get me to the nearest repair shop.

A big thanks to all of you who have shared the contents of your toolboxes. There are distinct similarities but the real fun is in the disparities. Zipties? I would not have remembered and I use them a lot in my office.
Again thanks for helping us out.

For someone whose usual "toolkit" consists of a AAA and an AMEX card, these ideas are all wondrous. Two pages of responses.
Thanks to all.

I keep a small pancake air compressor under the bunk that will run off my inverter to pump tires and toys for the boys!

Bring what you will. When stuff happens you will be missing something. At least that is how it is at my place. Off to the store. Happy travels.

Might be time to get the eyes checked...I was reading bottle jack as "bottle of jack" and wondering what it would be used for and why it would be in the tool box instead of the liquor cabinet, lol!
