Very Concerned About This Video

Hey guys! Ran across this video and to say the least, I am very disappointed in what I see. It even looks like the Jayco employee is proud of this. Can anyone please set this straight for me. I have a 2003 model and have no quality issues at all. What wasd the build quality in 2003?

You could have this same video made at any RV manufacture and see the same process. It's an assembly line. We had a 2003 Jayco Kiwi 17a. We never had any real issues with it save for a couple of minor fit and finish issues. Same for our '13 X20E.

Do I think the manufacturers can do better? Of course. Will they? Only when we stop buying their goods and are willing to pay a lot more than we pay for them now.

This has been discussec on JOF many, many times. It is a bogus video that was sped up probably by a competitor.

I don't see a problem with it. The trailer is assembled in 6 hours or so, but most everything is built beforehand. The walls are assembled somewhere else. The cabinets are made somewhere else. What you see is the culmination of all the other work that is done and then assembled. There is anywhere from a few to many guys working on the trailer at any one time. Our current TT built in 2017 has no real build quality issues that we have been able to find. I think they could have done a better job with clean up, although the dealer should also have done a better job with clean up. Lots of saw dust and little metal shavings throughout the camper.

Just for reference might want to check how many new cars or trucks, suv's or vans roll off the assembly line per hour.

Yup. Once it's on the internet, it's there forever... and resurfaces from time to time.

We toured the plant that made our 195rb the year before we bought one. Yep, they did speed up parts but those are hard workers who move as fast as possible.

I toured the Harley plant many years ago and the Mitsubishi Bloomingtin, IL plant 10 years ago. Nothing stops, it is like a big dance where everyone moves quickly.

If they did it like a Rolls Royce plant in England you would have to pay Rolls Royce prices. A lot cheaper to fix a few minor mistakes yourself. ( like the spot on the widow that leaked, a couple of nails and screws they shot into space.

The F150 plant rolls a new truck off the line every minute, so 60 an hour.

So my Jayco is 600 times better built than an F150?

I've been to the F150 plant; it looks similar but a tad more sophisticated! And my F150 has no quality issues.

I doubt that, between robots and people which are probably over 600 to make the truck the truck is much better quality. Now if we were talking back in the 70s the lack of quality the big three put out matches Jayco lack of quality today.

No problem, you did not know that. This video was actually a news clip I believe first run on CNBC, Jayco obviously hosted the tour and filming. It's been discussed many times here and on other forums. Disgruntled owners have poked fun at the video as in this YouTube video. See post 18 in the link below for my take on this video.

No, don’t worry about it. Some of the people who have been on here forever as just a little touchy. It’s good to see some new blood on here especially when they bleed Farmall Red.

Hey, I had no intention to insult. It's just that it's been around and discussed on almost every forum multiple times.

Some of us have sick humor.

Prior to retiring I have spent time both building homes and selling tools etc. to 2 RV manufacturerers, a GM, Ford, and Toyota auto assembly plant, 2 major truck manufacturers, and a school bus manufacturer. I can assure you that the process is very much the same. This factory seems to be designed very well. Frankly, watching the video for me was fascinating. Employees were using standard processess to assemble and the number of assembly people was impressive. If you look close, not one worker even looked harried or exhausted. Tools were all proper for the job. I honestly am not sure what people find objectionable about the video; except they may not understand the construction process. Today, if you watch houses built in CA you will find that many of the walls are pre-constucted, roofs are almost alway made at a factory and shipped to the building site, and even some plumbing pipes are pre-assembled into sections. We purchased our Jayco in 2016 and had just a few minor issues. The one difference between a house and an RV, a house is not driven down the freeway at 60 MPH, over bumps, G forces while turning, etc. Sure there are mistakes, sometimes poor assembly, people are people and they don't always perform at 100%. Is there another manufacturer who has a 2 year warranty and stands by their product as well as Jayco has for mine, maybe. But I didn't see one in the 6 months we took prior to purchasing our first trailer ever; and the two year warranty was a huge selling point for us. I have a basic understanding of the building process and understand how driving down a highway might affect quality long after the trailer left the factory. My daughter, who works in Social Media told me that the problem with forums is that most people use them just to complain. Thankfully, this forum is both educational and entertaining; thanks for posting this video, for me, it supports my decision to purchase Jayco.
