Precept Track Bar

We have a 2018 Jayco Precept 31UL. Looking for ways to improve handling of the unit. Know it has the"J Ride" improvement, but not sure what that is worth. Should I change out the steering stabilizer for a better one. Been reading a lot about adding a rear trac bar. Will it help, is it worth the money? Already got the frontend alignment, and that helped a lot but still got the tail wag.

If you read through another thread here "Help with oversteering conditions...."etc. you will get some good reading about handling.

I was determined not to add a trackbar until making a high wind trip home several days ago. My UltraRV trackbar arrives tomorrow and I will have it mounted in a week or so.

Lots of good contributions in that thread I mentioned so have a read and come back here for additional questions, plenty of opinions reside in this forum.

Nick,
Can't find that thread. Should I search on "Help With Overstearing Conditions" or something else?

It’s down the page about 10 threads from yours. If you scroll down it should be easy to find.

Don't expect a lot from the steering stabilizer. At first I was convinced it made an improvement but more driving changed my mind.

I will say though that after watching the SafeTSteer blown tire videos I became convinced that their stabilizer was needed in case of a blowout.

A proper alignment has made the largest difference for me.

Thanks Nick for the follow up. I have had a proper alignment done and had the front tires trued and balanced. That really made a big difference in the ride and handling. Adding a track bar should help keep the truck traffic and crosswind from about blowing me off the road. Based on what you say about the stabilizer, I may wait and add that later if I still think I need it., thanks again

Cheap Handling Fix. Owners have been doing this to their Ford F53 chassis for many years. There are front and rear sway bars that have had two holes in the ends for a link bar that is secured to the frame. I say "have had" because some owners on newer vehicles are reporting only a single link hole.

Ford ships the chassis with the links connected to front hole which supposedly provides a better ride but sacrifices body roll/sway. Moving the link to the rear hole changes the sway bar geometry and will minimize body roll. I can't tell that the ride was any worse but I sure had a lot less body roll.

If you google CHF you will have hours and hours of reading. Some users even purchased longer link bars so that the sway bar stayed more level rather than tipped up. My large truck alignment specialist said no problem with the tilted sway bar so I have not pursued that option.

If you are handy with tools it's an easy change, took me about 45 minutes each for front and rear, did it in a gravel parking lot using a furniture pad to lay on.
