Organizing pass through storage

I’m wondering if anyone has used pegboard to organize their pass through storage area or what little tricks or system you use to organize the area.

Yup did the peg board on 2 travel trailers. Just space it out from the rear wall. I hung up the cranks on peg board clips, wd arms in short pieces of abs pipe.
Awning hook was on peg board clips, coax for cable hookup...
Used a piece of carpet on the floor. Nothing shifted in transit.

I use 4 or 5 good sized totes with lids in my front pass thru, contents marked on the sides so I can get somewhat of a head start on what I might be looking for. All totes fit thru the door opening so I don't have to "fight 'em" getting them in or out. I can lay the lawn chairs on top of the totes, water hose(s) in the open spaces. I use PVC pipe to store my WDH bars inside the pass thru area. Small food container for all the related pins and clips, spares as well. Gas grill goes in last, 1st out for loading/unloading.

I have a smaller piece of pegboard along side my water heater. On cargo hold side I have my stabilizer crank and a few other items. On the water heater side, I have a package of replacement/spare parts for my hitch, also a full set of spare keys.

The peg board sounds like a great solution, but I didn't go that route.


I built some boxes out of pine that I had laying around. They fit in the pass-though storage compartment on the curb side. I have 3: one is for chocks, truck mirrors, etc. A second one is located just inside the compartment door and was designed to hold my WD bars, gloves, etc and the WD ball mount. I have a 3rd box that sits on top of the WD box to hold cleaners, lubricants, spare parts. I then built a platform to sit on top of the bottom two boxes so that I can sit my spacer blocks and tool boxes on a flat surface. I really like the boxes for the WD hitch items because they are all very greasy and the boxes keep the grime confined so that nothing else gets greasy.

I have been contiplating how I want to orginize my front pass through. In an ideal world I would love to have a set up of what lance uses on there travel trailers. The big plastic slide out storage. Don't know what kind of weight that adds but talk about not having to be muskrat to dig stuff out!

Although there's bound to be some similarities of who carries what in the pass through, it becomes a personal preference of what, and how much you want to put in there. We tend to put set up items in the door side, and things like water filter and fittings, extra water hose and extension cords, the EMS, and lesser used items in the street side door.

We have a piece of carpet on the floor, and small items in a collapsible crate. Sometimes, it seems like there must a better way to organize our compartment, but I haven't been able to perfect it yet!

I like labeled plastic tote containers of various sizes. One for water filter, pressure reducer & electrical connectors. An under the bed type for sewer hose/connectors (large, but only 6" high). Another for charcoal. A small one for the tire covers. Etc.

We found a useful trick, which was to get a plastic under-bed storage box, with rollers on the bottom.
The rollers make it easy to push and pull, even if it's loaded, and it's long/thin enough to push all the way to the back of our, rather awkward, storage area.
For the rest, we raided our local Walmart and bought a number of smaller totes..

You do have to play a kind of 3D Tetris game, to load the totes in the right sequence... the last to go in, when you pack to depart, should be the first one that you need when you arrive.

By far the biggest boon to organisation is labelling! The Lady From Little Rock is an organising guru, so we have an industrial grade label printer, which can print big, easily seen labels... but some painter's tape and a Sharpie work as well.

My brothers 5th wheel has a small compartment that doesn’t lock and has a opening where he can reach into the opening and keeps a hide a key magnetic box there. Unfortunately my trailer doesn’t have a spot like that I can take advantage of. The rear bumper could be used, but I figure an unsavory person would look there to see if I tried hiding a key in there.

My family has 10 acres we camp on in the forest. We’re all spread out so we have some area to ourselves, but close enough to visit with. Between the three trailers we all have spare keys to the others trailers. That’s where I spend most of the summer camping.

Spower, here you go. I put this pegboard on both sides but use just the curb side right now. I also put in carpeting that helps keep things from sliding around. I’m still trying to get the trailer organized, especially the front pass through. Jay

Thank you, that looks great! I'm thinking I will just do a small board for now to put the most used tools on it for easy access, i.e., screwdrivers, pliers, hammer, etc...
