RV driving school?

Is there any RV driving school where we can learn how to hitch, drive and backup a big RV? I have never towed a trailer, and would be much much more comfortable before picking up a RV from a dealer lot.

I have never heard of a specific school for trailers. There are lots of good videos on YouTube which will show you how to set up cones and practice in an empty parking lot. Changing Lanes and Keep Your Daydream come to mind off the top of my head. I’m sure there are plenty of others.

I like to practice, practice, practice on empty parking lot. But I still need to tow the trailer to the empty parking lot going through busy streets or highway. Does any dealer have a big empty lot to practice towing RV before heading to road? Thanks all.

I'll admit that I consider myself fairly handy and not scared of much.

But backing up a trailer is one of those things that concerns the snot out of me.

We had a good family friend, a little slip of a lady, who went to trucking school and drove semi tractor trailers around the country for years.

I had ZERO ego issues asking her to help me back up a trailer I borrowed!

Even if there was a school, many drivers would still drive liked they learned at the Stevie Wonder Driving Academy!

As far as I know, RV has back camera prep, but does not have side camera preps. I would like to have 3D/360 view of the trailer and towing vehicle for driving and backup. How to connect those cameras to towing vehicle's LED screen? Does half-ton, 3/4 or 1 ton truck have such 360 view features for towing?

Back up cameras are a great tool to see how close you are to something directly behind you BUT some folks become so fixed on watching the screen they forget about what is along side of them. I manage a coach bus company and the newer buses in our fleet of 40 Motorcoaches came equipped with back up cameras. Our backing accidents where we struck fixed objects has increased as a result and these are trained professional drivers.

Bottom line, back up cameras are not a substitute for side view mirrors and paying attention!
