Most commercial hauler I see in the freeways are using Rams. Not sure if it’s because of power, reliability, or cost, but I’m sure there is a reason why. I see fords too, but not as many - maybe 50% less than rams. I never see any GMs.

Anyone know the reasons why? I have a ram, but am not brand loyal. I did find my ram w/Cummins was the same price as a ford with gas. The new design had just come out (mid-2017) for Ford so maybe that’s why. The ford wasn’t $7k nicer for the same truck basically. Honestly didn’t even consider GM. Can’t stand the look and square wheel wells...plus never see them used by actual contractors who work them everyday, which must mean something.

wondering if both trucks were diesels? I have a 2015 6.7L Ford and I've pulled our 377 RLBH 5er up and down the mountains of Colorado and I was shocked at how well the truck walked down the steepest grades using engine exhaust brake. This includes both interstate (holding 55ish MPH) and two lane road down hills (holding 35 MPH or less because of turns). I'm on my second Ford powerstroke (first was a 2007 6.0L with 180k) and don't have any complaints. I am not brand loyal, just haven't had anything pull me over to one of the other brands.

Not to be the devils advocate but the driver skill level has a lot to do with the truck performance. When we first got our Ram 3500 automatic. It took awhile to learn how to tow in the mountains! Without beating the heak out of the transmission. Thanks

Like has been stated before, check them all out and see what best fits you and your needs. I've had all the major brands in both gas and diesel and 1/2 ton to 3/14 ton to 1 ton. Which ever way you go, know what you have and how to diagnose and repair what you can! This has saved me many, many times and countless dollars!! I looked for over 6 months when we bought my Dodge. No emissions crap, MANUAL transmission, diesel and I could work on it. Also be aware that when a diesel breaks, it will be more costly then a gasser. When it comes to towing, having more is usually better then having just enough! Torque is the part that matters, horse power is just a number that doesn't really mean a whole lot for towing. Do your homework and enjoy what you have!

+on the 1Ton. You can run out of payload capacity pretty quickly with 5th wheels and 3/4 ton Trucks, expecially if you go diesel.

JayJ did you ever end up with a new truck? What did you go with?

Cheers.
