opinion needed

Hello everyone here is my question. In October I dropped of our new 2014 Whitehawk for some warranty work. One of the main problems was the front wall with some rather large bubbles in the fiberglass. Jayco approved a new front wall and shipped one out to the dealer. Not to bash on the dealer but they are one of the larger nationwide dealers. Anyhow the other week they call me and say that they think they got it fixed without replacement of the wall. So I go down to look at it and notice a Crack in the fiberglass where the largest bubble was. I told them I would prefer the wall to be replaced. But they explain to me that the job would be pretty extensive and would prefer not to break all the factory seals in replacement. So the next day I contact jayco to see about them picking up my trailer and doing the work, and was informed that they had already payed the dealer to make the replacement. Now I'm starting to think the dealer is capable of making this repair.

If it were you what would you do?

Thanks for your input

Are you saying that the dealer accepted payment from Jayco in an amount that would pay for the installation of a new wall, which new wall Jayco sent the dealer. Then the dealer decided just to patch the problem, instead of installing the new wall and that the patch is cracked? Did the dealer keep the original large payment or refund the extra to Jayco?

If all the above is correct, did Jayco seem interested that the dealer accepted payment for a very big job but did a cheaper patch?

I would insist on having the wall replaced. I wonder if it's too late, but Jayco has been known to do repairs like that at their factory, if you tow it there and back yourself.

After contacting Jayco they had told me that want the wall replaced because that is what they paid the dealer to do. I'm just a little worried that the job is to big for the dealer to do. Or that are trying to do a quick fix and collect for the total replacement.

If I understood what happened correctly, I'd run from that dealer to do anything. Ever. They did not do the repair that Jayco authorized and paid for and sent the parts for, but kept the money. Then their repair was defective.

I'd insist that either another dealer authorized by Jayco do the repair or (maybe better) have the repair done at the Jayco factory.

That's the path I would prefer. I would really like the factory to make the repair. Just wonder how much of a pita that would be seeing as the dealer already has the panel and the money.

That behavior on the part of the dealer seems to fall in the range somewhere between dishonest and outright fraudulent.

It really does sounds like a pain; but to have that dealer do the repair sounds, to me, to be potentially more painful - even if you could get them to attempt to repair the wall.

The dealer said they were concerned about breaking the factory seals (such as they were) so they apparently don't know how to do it. And if they do know how to do it, they don't want to. Your warranty is with Jayco - not this dealer. And Jayco needs to make sure your trailer is repaired to your satisfaction.

Sounds like you would rather have the factory do the repair. If it were me, the next step I would take would be to negotiate directly with Jayco about having it done there. Jayco, I'm fairly certain, could recover the parts and cost from the dealer. That would be part of your discussion with Jayco.

I agree and would think that all trust in the dealer would now be gone. Probably time to get another dealer or Jayco involved. Please let us know how this turns out.

Because the warranty claim has already been attempted with a particular dealer, I would not approach another dealer without Jayco's blessing. Talk to Jayco first.

Did you tell Jayco about this? It sounds to me like dealer fraud against You and Jayco.. I am sure Jayco will see that things are made right...

At this point the dealer has shown their lack of capability so call Jayco and request the repair be done at the factory. Unfortunately, you will be responsible to get it to them and pick it up after the repair but, the repair will be done correctly. We needed work done to a 5th wheel a few years ago that the dealer wasnt comfortable performing. They pointed us to Jayco factory service who did a great job.

It appears the OP is located in Sterling Heights, Mich, which is not far from the Jayco factory. That's why I mentioned the factory repair option.
Note to self...I'm posting too much to this thread.

Ok will be making a call back to Jayco tomorrow and try to get them to make the repair themselves. Thanks for all the feedback.

There is only one thing that can be said, this dealer is dishonest and fraudulent. I would get with Jayco big time, I wouldn't let this rest until it was made right. I would ask Jayco now that they know the dealer done this, if they can blame you for not wanting them to do the work, in fact I would ask Jayco if they think that they can trust them after this.

Wow that's just hard to beleave that a dealer would be that dishonest. Makes me wonder what Jayco thought of that. Good for you guys for helping out in this situation. Another good reason to belong here.

I would not let this dealer touch the trailer again. That is shady business. They were paid to do something and didn't do it. It would make me wonder how many times they are taking short cuts or trying to take the cheap way out on fixing other things. Find someplace else to have work done.

I agree with the others, work through Jayco directly at this point to get the original approved Warranty Service Claim (wall replacement) completed....., requesting that the dealer in question not preform the work.
