Rear window GONE?

OK, I give up, went on a 2 hr trip yesterday to a campground...
Setup, then later got ready for bed, but noticed a lot of bugs we had the lights on. few minutes later a plane flew over, sounded real loud, got to checking around, the 5ft wide read window was gone. Lost it somewhere on the interstate.

Anybody here has a similar problem in the past? An '05 Granite ridge, nothing changed all of a sudden the window falls out?
Can you get replacement glass, or does the whole window and frame have to be replaced?

Is this a new camper? If you've had it a while you would think a missing seal would have allowed the window to depart early in your traveling experience.

I'm still stuck on the fact that the window blew out during transit, but during the whole set-up operation and walk around the trailer when setting up, the missing window wasn't noticed until later on that night when bugs were flying around in it???

Sorry, guess I should have gone around in the dark and checked to see if all the windows were intact, guess I need to add that to my setup list.

Was thinking the same thing... I think I’d notice a 5’ wide window missing during setup. Even in the dark. And it wasn’t bugs that got it noticed it was the sound of a plane flying over...

OP you most likely will need to get the window custom cut being that it’s a 14 year old camper. But I could be wrong.

Would think the wind after it blew out would of caused a mess inside the RV.. Curtains, shades valences etc, plus anything loose inside the unit. I have never heard of the glass falling out of a window like that. Did it do any damage to the frame? Would think the frame holding the glass in must of been damaged.

Good Luck...let us know what you have to do to get it repaired.

I do a walk around even after dark on the RV with flashlight. Have lost a few side light covers over the years. I just like to check for any road damage, but, that's me

Yup, always have and always will do a 360 walk around my camper after setup making sure everything is good. I’ve learned not to assume nothing is loose, broken, or missing after a trip down the road with a camper.

Just a thought, was the window there when you left. I know it sounds stupid but maybe somebody removed it to try to go in and rob something but got distracted. there was a time where they removing the front windshield on class C’s to rob them.

I keep the RV in the yard at the house, so I know the window was there,
there was no wind noticeable in the RV, all other windows closed with day/night blinds down to keep heat down inside.
No damage noticeable on the rear exterior of the motorhome

Rear Window Missing

Are you talking about the window over the bed? You should be able to buy that. Contact Jayco and ask who their supplier is and order one from them. If they don't have an answer check the salvage yards around Elkhart to see what is available. A lot of the windows fit multiple years and makes. Make sure you seal the opening to keep out water until you get the replacement. Installation isn't rocket science if you are handy. I would be really curious to see why the window blew out. Check for rot around the window opening. You may have water damage around the opening that loosened up the window. You can try here: https://www.jaycorvparts.com/ or any one of the parts houses or dealers. If you can do it yourself it would save you some money. Good luck with it. Let us know how you do with the repairs. As someone else suggested, the rear window could have been removed at the campground to gain access to your MH. Stranger things have happened.

The rear window couldn’t have been missing for too long. You would get so much wind and dust sucked in through it while driving that it would be noticed.

Oh my, sorry to hear about the window. Never heard of that happening before. If I backing into spot in the dark, I’m not one for doing a walk around inspection in the dark, i’ll Level, put stands down, slides out, I’m generally exhausted after a long day so I’ll go to bed. I’ll look around in the morning if needed.
Sounds like a seal or whatever held it in would be the issue.
I’m surprised no other motorist honked or flagged you down, then again maybe no body saw it. Kinda hard to miss a 6’ wide window flying off in the highway.
Thank goodness you didn’t kill someone traveling behind you.
Let us know what you find out.
Glad you are all ok.

Was this a fixed window or one used as an emergency exit? I have had an exit window open traveling and that could have been lost if I had not seen it in my mirror.

If it's a fixed window most any glass shop should be able to replace it. If it was the emergency you'll need some hardware.

Damn window thieves at it again aye! You can get just about any part you need to replace but in the meantime I would double plastic & tape to keep out the elements. Than give it a nice touch by planking it in all directions with balsa wood, just for effect.

Rear Window Missing

The more I thought about your missing window I would say it was stolen rather than blown out. Your roof ladder is to the right of the window. I would look for pry marks around the window opening. I think you would have noticed if the window had blown out while you were traveling. It seems more likely that someone climbed your roof ladder and pryed the window out to gain access to your motor home. If you feel that is the case the theft would be covered under your comprehensive coverage subject to your deductible. Check the window opening over by the ladder on the outside of the coach. Just my humble opinion..

I don't think it was stolen.., no evidence, guess it was just a fluke.
Anyway, we taped plastic around the window while at the campground, as soon as we got home I contacted a local glass shop, safety glass the correct size would have to be ordered, at least a week till arrival, so plexiglass is the answer we went with what was in stock, clear plexiglass, wish it was smoked, but they put it in, resealed and was done in less than an hour.
weird problem fixed, but I guess no one was hurt when it fell out(hopefully)
guess anything is possible on the road, always be ready for what you don't expect and hope for the best.

Check your rv insurance policy as it may be a covered item. It was either stolen, pried off, or blew out....comprehensive portion might cover part of it. Talk with your agent.
