Strike Plate improper installation

For those having problems with your doors sticking or deadbolts not locking; make sure to check your strike plates. I have a 2020 Seismic and was shown by another jayco owner that both my doors strike plates were installed in backwards at the manufacturer. He had the same problem. I have had numerous problems with mine over the last two years and apparently it is a problem with many Jayco’s, and would be a simple QA/QC check. I hope Jayco has fixed it by now. I now have unsightly holes on my door frames from from the original screw holes that were drilled to install the plates backwards. I flipped mine around and they work like new money. Amazing when an item is installed correctly, how well it performs.

Could you post a pic showing how it should look, and a before pic if you took one.

I had the same issue on 2021 317RLOK. Had to slam the door to get it to catch, or as Kirkelli said hold the latch and pull to get it to catch. Thought I was going to break the plastic handle a couple of times trying to close it quietly at night. Took it to the dealer for several warranty issues and they bent it up so bad trying to get it catch it was unbelievable. After straightening it out as best I could I flipped it over and reinstalled - worked as advertised since then. So it appears they still have the same guy installing them (Incorrectly)

Ken - Thx for the tip. 2021 321RLTS Pinnacle and the strike plate was installed backwards. Did your suggested adjustments and all is fine. Again, thanks. It is a small thing but annoying. Now that it works correctly, I can enjoy the RV much more. SKIDAWG

So, I’m thinking mine is backwards also? The more gradual edge of the plate is on the inside but seems it should be on the outside where the latch tongue slides over it?
If it’s reversed, do the screw holes work when you flip it, or are new holes necessary?

My 2022 looks the same...don't think it matters too much from what i could see. I did put a little dry lube on it and the door closes smoothly now.

From the picture, it looks like the screws would fit, however the square opening for the latch would be a bit higher and may not line up for you. ~CA

Thanks Craig. I just went down to the RV yard to check it. It appears the tongue latch will still barely fit in the opening of the plate, but even at its farthest point toward the outside, it doesn’t look like it would quite be far enough and leave a slight gap between the outside sidng and edge of the strike plate. It’s done its job so far (with some lube on occasion); I’m inclined to leave it.

I agree, and if it was mine I would leave it alone as well.

Yeah, there will always be plenty of other things to “fix”.

Thanks for bringing up the striker plate.
I have a 20 248RBSW and two years ago I took it back for many warranty issues and brought up that the door was hard to close. They made it better but I felt it was still not proper. I just went out to my trailer to look at the striker plate and not surprised it was backwards. Changed it around and now it closes like it should. Thank you

In my photo, you can see where the outside edge bends in forming a plate to give extra reinforcement to the striker where the other side does not have this feature, so my photo looks to be the way it was intended to be. This is very similar to a residential front door lock set as well.
