It's definitely an over-reaction. Like others said above, our seasonal flu should be a bigger issue, those numbers FAR exceed the WuFlu numbers.

But, I'm concerned about the fake panic and over-reaction by our lawmakers, their kneejerk reactions to emotional panics can be crazy. We have two trips planned so far (one being a anniversary cruise), if travel restrictions and quarantines start popping up because of this, I'll really be pissed!!

Everything gets politicized now, including viruses. Which means getting even-handed, rational information about the latest virus is close to impossible.

There are politicians, aided by their minions in the media, who wish to discredit president Trump, and are using this virus as their cudgel. If he restricts travel to and from certain countries, he's a racist, if he doesn't restrict travel he's a maniac, and no matter what he does it will be reported as too much, or too little.

Regardless of who you support, or the ideology you possess, we're not currently in an environment where we can expect accurate reporting of this disease.

Boil it all down, and I say go to Disney. Take normal precautions. And, stay away from that mouse.

kinda tasteless don't you think? I have friends with long term effects from Lyme including heart and neurological damage.

My bad.. I like dark ales and stouts. Corona is only in desperation!

I heard (don't know if it was serious or not) that the company that bottles Corona beer was going to re-brand because they thought it was too close and would cost sales!

Nevermind, just read the "real" story; no plans to re-brand!!

I will barely drink Corona in desperation either. I prefer the dark stuff too. Give me a good strong Stout, or at least a Bock (one of my local brewers makes my favorite Bock) and I'm good to go...

Sorry to announce that we have had to cancel one of our trips in February already....

We are not going to take our spring trip to Camping World... Due to the issues there -

we decided to take our Seneca straight to the Freightliner dealer for it's annual PM instead.

2019 only was what I was looking at. I heard on the radio ( same as Internet, maybe true maybe not ) about 18000 died in 2017. Probably none of the figures accurate as say, how many had a bad heart & flu pushed them over the edge ? Way back didn't that flu the WWI troops brought back kill like 70000 , got to look that one up. Of course hygiene & living conditions played a roll .
I had a cousin who passed away a few years back due to some kind of bug that attacked her immune system . Her Dr.'s , and she was seen by some of the best & lots of them, allways believed she was exposed to what ever it was while she was on a long vacation touring China. She just wasted away over a two year period upon comeing back home. I don't think they ever actually had a clue to what she had.
Will we ever find out where this virus started ? Could be like " Ebola " , some scientists think it was disturbed after being dormant for thousands of years in a cave in Africa by people digging.

It varies each year, the 2017-2018 flu season killed 61,000.

2016-2017 was 31,000 died.

2018-2019 was 34,000 died.

So far, the 2019-2020 CDC estimates that so far this season there have been at least 32 million flu illnesses, 310,000 hospitalizations and 18,000 deaths from flu.

Remember, these totals for seasonal flu are only USA deaths. The COVID-19 deaths WORLDWIDE as of now is 3,125 and illnesses are 90,930.

That's why COVID-19 needs to be kept in perspective as a small issue.

Even if it does kill you, it’s not like your getting out of life alive anyway... I can think of better ways to go but in the end Death is gonna win.

Please, cancel all of your camping reservations. I am still trying to make more, and there seems to be a shortage.

This. We too are leaving on a cruise in the near future. At this point, I'm much more concerned that one of the islands we're to visit will overact to someone on board that developed a cold, and close their port to the ship.

At this point, I just plan on keeping one eye on the situation, and to do the recommended washing of hands, and I would steer clear of someone who is coughing a lot.

True the flu kills a lot of people each year. But there is a vaccine for it! For what ever reason some people won't take it

"CDC estimates that the burden of illness during the 2018–2019 season included an estimated 35.5 million people getting sick with influenza, 16.5 million people going to a health care provider for their illness, 490,600 hospitalizations, and 34,200 deaths from influenza"

So 1/2 of the people out there don't get treated for one reason or another, whether it's lack of healthcare or whatever. Likely the cause of most of those deaths.

Actually, the flu vaccine usually has only a 50% effectiveness, sometimes less, but gives people a false sense of security. So, a good portion of people who get vaccinated, still catch the flu.

Any chance it's because they get a mild case, and just stay home and treat it themselves, versus go to the doctor?

The deaths primarily come from the elderly or people who already have major underlining health issues.
