We agree with you... I have found nothing but trouble with these darn things. I have spent too much $$$ on different types and even more $$$ and time trying to make them work...
I spend far less time doing it the way they were designed, with the stock Stainless Stems and our TPMS sensors on the end of the stem. In the last 4 years, I have found that we will replace the battery in the TPMS Sensor once a year, at the same time I will add a little air while replacing the sensor on the stem.
The rest of the year, DW (Stacy) does the tire pressure check from the comfort of her passenger seat in the cab of our Seneca. Otherwise, the dual-chuck pressure gauge we carry stays stored in it's location all year long, but I still do a visual inspection each time we depart as part of the "pre-trip-check" that is a DOT requirement for any Class-8 vehicle.
