Question Leaks while driving through rain.

Does rain get driven into the seams on the front of a aluminum sided Jay Flight?

Not so much when sitting still in a camp site, but when being pulled on the highway into a driving rain.

They're panels are not supposed to leak, BUT, I have read of incidents where they did. Guess you could always put a bead of proflex on the seams (front area) to get the fuzzy feeling. I know I would.

The horizontal seams just interlock and are not waterproof, so now we're talking about a 60-65 mile per hour driving rain. At that speed it's a wall of water.

Sounds like a line of caulk on those seams would be good preventive maintenance, no?

I just have 1 seam because it's a hard sided TT and "yes" I caulked it. Did it have a small leak before "yes".

Seamless RV. Wouldn't it be nice. And I mean a 30' plus one. Not the eggshell ones.

I've noticed that any time we travel in rain we get water drops inside our wet bath, mostly on the toilet. The fan is directly above the toilet so that's obviously where it's coming in, but the "why" I haven't been able to figure out.

The fan in the kitchen is the exact same and it doesn't leak during travel. They are both closed tight and neither leak when sitting stationary for extended periods in the rain .

Our old hybrid had a belt line molding in the front. In about the 4th year of ownership we got water in the front storage while towing in the rain. I put a hose on the front and discovered the seals on the ends had just shrunk enough to let water in but not not enough to see easily.

Found my leak on a corner of the front window just after I got it home from the dealer. To far to return to dealer so worked on it myself. Used factory recommended clear caulk that is dry in seconds. No leakage after that. Went to all the windows and doors and did a 360 inspection then up to the roof.

Did a Illinois to western Colorado and back with rains and no new leaks

I'm curious which corner on the front window you found the leak? My 2015 195RB has developed a leak that I'm certain is coming from around the front window. I've caulked across the top and down both sides of the metal frame with Dicor No-Sag to fill all the gaps created by the uneven siding and thought I had it fixed. But after another really heavy torrential downpour this evening I found another small puddle in the same place. Closer inspection of the press-in seal around the glass behind the rock shield the lower left corner of the press-in seal has loosened just a bit and you can see a little gap. I think with light rain it stays pretty dry behind the rock shield when it's closed, but when it pours like it did again this evening some water does get behind the shield.

Here is a pic showing the corner in question. You can see where it starts to curve coming down towards the bottom there is a darker line right at the seal - that's the small gap that appears to have accumulated some dirt now.

On my 195RB I could actually see daylight out the upper corner from the inside. I did the outside frame using the tip of the tube to force it into the crack especially forcefully. After overnight cure I had the spouse use a pinpoint hose spray to check for leaks.

I also did along the top, both sides and the bottom of the front window and then used the rest of tube on the rest of the windows and doors. This spring I will go back and do around the lights, top of the awning and check the roof seals.

Try going out at night with a bright flashlight on the outside and then inside to see if light shows through somewhere. ( with a helper LOL)

Thanks for the details RogerR - appreciate the feedback. I initially suspected the gaps around the outside frame and did the same caulking job you describe last week when I found the first signs of the leak. My dealer in only a few miles away so i am going to go by this week and see order a new press-in seal to fix the corner shown in the picture. I'm also going to see about ordering a new seal for the back of the rock shield. I did notice when looking close at that one it's not lined up very well in some places when the shield is closed. Hopefully getting that lined up better will reduce the amount of water than gets behind the rock shield in the first place.
