After much research traded our Jay Feather X23B in on a 2019 Jay Feather 23RBM this week and we are so excited. Kids and grand kids have their own RVs now so we don't need to sleep so many. I absolutely love the layout of the JF 23RBM and can't wait to try it out next week on it's first trip. I choose the Jay Feather 23RBM because of the storage and floor plan. So much floor space, counter space and storage options plus we can still sleep a couple of grand kids on the sofa or on an air mattress in the floor if we want. Don't need the outdoor kitchen the White Hawk offered as we take our own Camp Cook Stove and I didn't like the L-shaped dinette in the White Hawk because you loose the extra sleep option.

I just purchased a 2018 23mrb. Which mattress did you buy on Amazon. I would like to know if I could add a 3 inch foam to the existing mattress.

I can't comment on a 3" foam topper, but we are using this 2" on our Murphy bed with great success.

2017 23MRB Whitehawk - threw out straw filled mattress and purchased a 10" thick foam short queen from Lucid. Comfortable and murphy bed closes just fine with a little space to spare.

Is the 2017 Murphy Bed the same as the 2018 model? The mattress bends approximately in the middle when you close it in the 2018 model.

Forgive my memory, I had forgotten that some Murphy Beds fold, mine does not, the whole platform is one flat unhinged piece so the materes does not fold.

Thanks. There some differences between yours and mine. I don't think the thicker foam mattress would bend in mine. Oh well so it goes.

We have a 2018 23mrb. Starting in 2018, the mattress on the Murphy bed folds when stored in the upright position. We have added a small pad and the split in the mattress is still noticeable. We would like to add a thicker foam top but not sure it would fold properly. Has anyone had any experience with this?

My wife and I like our Murphy bed in our Jay feather 23rbm. Just enough room to walk around . We usually just leave it down. The only change would to be able to put down with the slide in. We cover ours in the winter so cant open the slide without taking cover off.would be nice without the hassle to put bed down for an overnight guest with the slide in.deano

Correct me if I am wrong but I think the Murphy bed will come down with the slide closed.

My 2016 23MRB will allow the bed to deploy with the slide in.

Make sure you tie down the Murphy bed. A friend did not tie his down one time. He dropped the book he was reading. When he reached to get it the bed folded up on him. He was out by himself. It took him about 30 minutes to think and struggle his way out of it.

Your all right . Our Murphy bed just clears the slide while it's in . Stupid me for not trying. Now no excuses for overnight guests! LOL. Love the Murphy bed even more. Thanks deano

Tie it down to what ? While your laying on it ? Or laying on the couch ? Our 24MBH only has a couple latches to hold it in the up position, we have slept on ours quite a few times and its never folded up on us . Actually thinking about it I don't even think it would be possible to fold it up while somebody is laying in the bed.

We have the 2018 model and with the bed down there is plenty of room for the slide to go in or out. I think it would be impossible for the bed to fold up while laying or sitting on it. I have no knowledge of other year models.

I believe the "tie downs" that Duke had mentioned was reference to the straps that hold the mattress/bedding in place when you lift the bed back into place. As to folding up while on it, that sounds like a parody of an old TV sitcom?

My 2017 model has a strap on each side of the bed that gets hooked to the side of the sofa when in the down position. They keep the bed for flipping back up if you accidentally get too much weight on the top of the bed causing it to fold. And yes, I've managed to get too far forward on the bed putting the pillows away causing it to start to tip.

I'll take a picture of them in a little while and post them here. I'm surprised that Jayco didn't include them on all models.

Ok. Here is the strap and mounting point on the sofa in question.

Interesting . My 2016 doesn't have the anchor points on the couch.

Our 23rbm has straps that hook to the side of the sofa also. It's a good idea to strap it if you have them. My wife managed some how to have it fold up on her. Luckily she had her cell phone with her to get some help.
