New tire advice please
Hello jayco friends. I need some advice on if my rig is safe to go. First let me tell you the original tires are still on here are 2015. They have lots of tread and look fine. The previous owner only took it on one trip before using as a cabin at fishing park. I only drove it home from purchase so far. Ive been busy recalling everything and remodeling/updating. It will be mostly parked for me too. But definately want to go on a couple trips. Also want to be prepared to take off in case of a hurricane. I dont see any cracks or anything. Do you think they are safe to drive on? Obviously no one want to get a flat when they are out traveling! I'm also a little worried about my leaf springs. They look pretty corroded.( link to leaf spring video- https://youtu.be/ieoPmxTUWp8 ) Do I need to replace leaf springs?
I was looking at tires online. The ones on here are st205 75 r15. I've seen alot of d15 instead of r15. Should instick with r15?
Also how many ply do I need? I'm seeing 6 and 8 ply.
Does the brand really matter?
HELP!!!!

The "D" is a Bias Ply tire and the "R" is a radial. I would stick with radials as they will give you better on road performance. As for the look of your tire, it's really irrelevant. Trailer tires are usually replaced based upon age not wear. If I had 2015 tires regardless of the appearance I would replace them. I swap my camper tires every 5 years regardless of miles or wear.
I will usually go up 1 letter rating from what came with my trailer. I do that just for peace of mind.
I am very happy with Maxxis 8008's and that is my go to brand. Others report very good experiences with Goodyear Endurance.
I am on my phone and can't get your video to play SOS as far as the leaf spring question goes maybe someone else will chime in.

X2 for the Maxxis M8008. Replacements for my Chinese stock tires. Your springs do not look too bad, should not compromise them. Many look like that from the factory.

Check your tires to see where they were manufactured. If not U.S.A. Definitely replace, if they were made here then I’d say you should replace them.
Notice my wording; “definitely” vs “should”. I had 2 dramatic tire failures within a 70 mile stretch with a third looking like it was failing shortly. Guess where they were made. Another suggestion is to get a quality TPMS to keep tabs on the tires.

X2 on replacing them. One the side wall there is a date code. Those tires could be 7-8 years old. They are a ticking time bomb. When the blow, and your on the freeway, they can do a lot of damage to the TT.
If you want to bail quickly due ro a hurricane, last thing you want to be is stuck on the side of the road.
As for rust, that is nothing to be worried about. Just junked a 20 year old car that looked like Swiss cheese as rust (road salt) ate out the entire under carriage.

Thanks guys. Just did some research. Simpletire.com seems to have best prices and free ship. I've narrowed down to these 3.
I like the maxxis of course with all the reccomentdations but what about these other 2 brands. Trailer king and trailer master. I like there price much better lol trailer king has some good reviews. Anyone have experience with them?

If you are set on choosing from those 3 then the Maxxis wins without a seconds hesitation in my opinion...

Just trying to find a cheaper option but that is still quality. Im not set on these 3 i just like the 65$ price tag better. This trailer will not be drove barely ever. I just want to be prepared if I have to in case of hurricane basically.
Is there a lower priced brand besides maxxis whatbis quality?

The Maxxis get pretty good reviews and may be ok. I’d give the other 2 a miss as I suspect they are made in China.
I get they won’t get much use but it’s not the miles it’s the time. 5 yr and they are in the “highly suspect” category. 4 years from now and you need to run from the hurricane, get 50 miles down the road and “pop” goes the tire (which you likely will not hear) and your tire magically transforms into a steel flail and begins to disassemble your wheel well. My neighbor just had such damage repaired to the tune of $4500.
BTW he has no TPMS.
Tires are one of the things I don’t try to find the lowest $ on, too important.
YMMV, JMHO

NOT safe to drive on. Get a set of Carlisle Radial Trail HD - D rated tires. Do not drive fast even though they are rated for 81mph. Inflate to 65psi and keep them under 65 to 70 mph. That is my advice. Cheaper than Endurance tires. Do check the load rating for your rig.

My 2015 Whitehawk came with Rainier tires. They were load range D.
I replaced them with Carlisle Radial Trail HD load range E. I'm extremely happy with them.

I would suggest to check the date code on the tires and let that help you in making your decision as many manufactures state 10 years maximum with annual inspections after 5~6 years however a lot of people prefer 7~8 years max for added comfort in not having an older tire(s). I would also consider the traveling you plan to do, for example I would be less concerned with them if I was only camping ~60 miles or maybe less away from home and I had a good spare vs a longer distance trip over the course of many days. In any case, if I did drive them a bit longer I would as you did in the video and carefully look the tires over very carefully and very often. A tpms is not a bad idea whether you replace your tires now or later.
Regarding the rust, I wouldn't be concerned with what I saw in the video, but I would suggest to knock off the loose rust with a wire brush and\or perhaps a pressure washer, and then when dry I would spray "Fluid Film" all over the axles and wheel areas and anywhere else you may see surface rust. Fluid film is designed to protect metal from excessive rusting and while you may have no major rust issues now, many years from now could be a different story. ~CA

Towmax tires are a brand to stay VERY far away from. They're made in China. There have been numerous instances of catastrophic failures. Stick with the name brands suggested.

Some things you simply don't go for the "cheaper" option. Brakes and tires are 2 of them...

Going "up a letter" i.e increase Load range will only give an improvement if you also increase the inflation. It's the air pressure that supports the load not the tire sidewall.
