Slide Out Operation

I'm curious how slide outs are supposed to operate. Standing outside watching, our slide starts extending at a slight angle to the ground, then it slowly raises, and finally lifts up at the end. Is that normal?

I have leveled the trailer - so I would have thought the slide out just extends out completely leveled, on a line. I'm entirely sure which slide out system we have, but it's the one that makes knocking noises when fully extended and fully retracted (which is normal, I'm told). Not sure if that helps.

Appreciate any insights!

From how you are describing the slide operation, yes that sounds completely normal. As the slide reaches it's termination point, it will rise up slightly to become flush with the floor inside your camper.

We had a strong crosswind one spring. It pushed so hard on the slide the top was allowing wind in thru the seal. Yea the top hits first as suppose to. And, were glad for it.

X2.........., typical through-the-frame style slide operation.

With the slide opened, most folks didn't realize that the 'interior' depth of the slide floor is greater than the slide ceiling depth. Looking at the slide end wall from 'outside' you can see the difference..., about a 1 1/2" difference between top width and bottom width.

The 1 1/2" difference explains why the slide's outer side wall is at a slight angle once fully extended (floor is level), and why the floor rises (1" - 2") just prior to fully retracted.

Thanks for the feedback! It was odd, to be sure, especially for a first timer. The wife asked if everything looked right, so I lied. ha Now I'll explain it to her as if I always knew. Appreciate the insights.
