Where I live very few people cover their units. Not because our heat isn't as harsh, but the wind destroys the covers within a year, and usually all it takes is one good storm, especially winter storm, to have it torn to shreds.

But no matter where you live the sun is hard them. After the ceramic coat wore off, the front was sun exposed for most the day and it oxidized and faded to no end.

New cover

This is the cover I bought.

Took great care to cover sharp points with pool noodles and went back and looked for spots that are rubbing and took care of them.

We are in windy Wyoming... really tough on covers.
This one is working well so far.
