Jayco Quality Workmanship???

Don't get me wrong, we are happy..maybe not extremely happy with our new unit but happy none the less.
What I am not liking to see is stuff like this pictured here (behind the water heater.) How hard would it have been to hole saw a clean 2" hole to run the wires? Oh, he had to get his hand in there? How about a 4 or 5" hole instead of removing a 18" x 4" chunk of wallboard and gouging another slot by mistake!!
Jeesh...makes you start looking for other hidden treasures.
Sorry for the rant but WOW!!

Based on that and the ragged hole in the floor of my 26BH, I'd have to say that hole saws are in very short supply at Jayco.

Under my sofa, next to the heater, there's a big hole in the floor for the freshwater tanks's fill line. A six inch diameter, irregular shape. At least they posted a little sign there that says "Mice Enter Here" to make it easier for my little friends.

Canadian manufacturing plants closed down, now we have to deal with that quality. Is there any pride in the USA manufacturing? Gosh glad I have a 2005.

X2

Unfortunately Jayco workmanship coming out of the factory has been steadily slipping over the last couple years. I've spent a far amount of my personal time addressing my 2018 Jay Flight QC issues, plus dealership warranty service time.

You've got a great RV up in BC and that's Bigfoot Industries, Armstrong , BC. Their quality is right up there near the top of the charts. If they made one with a slide I would be first in line.

Those pictures from above should be published in at least Trailer Life Magazine so more people can see just what's being produced here in the US year after year.

Think only the fiberglass RV industry is still in business (Armstrong, Calgary etc.), as they where Canadian owners.
But all the USA RV companies closed Canadian manufacturing plants. Most RV's got shipped to the USA anyway. Many RV mfg. plants closed in the 2008 crash. Oliver, BC; Red Deer, AB etc.

That's ridiculous! And the icing on the cake is no one at Jayco doing outgoing inspection and no one at the dealer spotted this? Or worse they saw it and thought it was acceptable?

It only took 2 16oz cans of spray foam to fill all the holes in the floor of mine . They were all 6" round. Whether it was for 2 1/2" pex a couple of wires or a 2" drain it was 6".

That's in an area I'm sure most people will not easily see. I couldn't believe the amount of construction debris behind my power panel when I pulled it to install the EMS. Out of sight, out of mind seems to be their motto.

I wonder if this has anything to do with Jayco being sold to Thor, a few years ago. Jayco, is no longer a family owned business, not sure who Thor has allowed to remain, that was part of the old management team??

Remember that the RV industry has gone through some pretty rough times, first back in the 90's and then in the 2009 time frame. Both times it seemed the 'quality' mfgs were hard pressed to keep going and many were bought out, mainly for the names. So, after such a recession you have fewer mfgs with lower production capability. Then a boost in economy and sales go up without a corresponding increase in production capability. So, quality starts slipping to meet sales demand.

If you look at the forums of some of the more expensive RVs you'll find the same kinds of complaints.

That's terrible. Is that the dealers issue or factory?
Yep, found that crater when I replaced the 1960 era thermostat.

I believe its number two...they saw it and think its acceptable. Hard to believe. In my line of work you would be coached to get it right and then skidded if you continued to do something stupid like this.

Just this evening I went up a ladder to look at bedroom slide top seal because it seems to be sticking when I put slide out.
Well, the seal looked ok but I conditioned them all while I was up there and whamo...I see an indent in top of slide. After looking closer it looks like someone kneeled down on top of slide and broke through the thin plywood and put a cut in the membrane where the plywood gave way.
Can't type what I said when I saw that!!! We discussed if it would be worth telling the dealer and decided to not put ourselves through that because they would for sure say we did it.
I did a quick visual of slide tops and roof before we drove away from dealer but missed this.
We know that all manufactures have their issues and none of them build with quality anywhere near what we expect in the auto industry but we thought Jayco was a decent brand and went all in. This was going to be our retirement unit but I think we may use it for a couple years and dump it if it holds together that long. $$

You stole my line. So, I will say, "There's more where that came from."

I hear you on the slide out situation, but I am not ruling out a Bigfoot, Oliver, or an Escape. Right now of the three, I would go with a Bigfoot 2500 series. At lest the Bigfoots are 8'4" in width and a bit longer than the Escape and Oliver. If they would make a 30' unit, I would be sold, even without a slide out. I'd like a front lounge 30' Bigfoot, please!

I have not ruled out ORV or Northwood Manufacturing yet, but I am getting close to being done with the standard box trailers.

The Bigfoot I'm looking at is the 25B25RT and I'm going up there the middle of next month for the second time. The 2 beds workouts out great for us and I need to build a platform between the 2 for Tunce to rest on because she's on Guard duty at night. We've had 1 bad experience and since then she won't sleep soundly when we're asleep. I pity the fool that turns that door knob when we're sleeping, other than that she's the gentle giant.

When we make our way west next summer, we plan to look at Bigfoots, ORV models (mainly Blackstone), and Northwood Arctic Fox Silver Editions). We do not live near dealers for them, but I am so over the whole "dealer is so important" myth. We visited the Oliver plant in TN two years ago. It was very impressive; they really build those units. Please keep us posted on your findings. You have excellent non-mass-produced trailers makes in your part of the country. We do not have access to any other than Oliver.
