Coronavirus

Anyone here seriously thinking of adjusting or canceling their planned trips because of this?

My wife just suggested canceling our Disney trip coming this Thursday and I nearly blew a gasket.

Do not freak out on this.... there are 10s of thousands of people in the US that die of the flu every year. Hundreds of people that die in auto wrecks every year. Do not let fear control your life. Fear is used to control the masses!

I think it's wise to be cautious, but it's certainly too early to cancel anything. At this time there is nothing to fear in the US. Wash your hands regularly and it wouldn't hurt to carry hand sanitizer. In other words the same precautions you take for other viruses.

Good site to follow the numbers:

THIS is exactly my argument to everyone fearing for their lives.

It seems like getting the virus is a death sentence but it's far from it. Most deaths are from elderly people with pre-existing conditions already.

To me, it seems like a weaker flu and the odds right now are lower than getting shot. I guess the good news for me is that the crowds might be less in Orlando.

I overheard someone in costco yesterday saying how every year there is a new super scary virus or bug. It really struck me how right that person was, it really feels like every winter a new bug is going to wipe us all out, doesn't seem to happen.

Honestly take sensible steps such as washing your hands etc, and you should be fine, the drive to where you are going is far more dangerous than the virus.

I'm my opinion, this is nothing more than sensationalized news. We haven had any epic blizzards so far this year to panic everyone over. So, we need this virus to keep viewers tuned in.

People are "panic buying" already. Just this morning my brother saw 5 different people loading up what he calls "apocalypse carts" (pallets of water and full of canned goods).

Since we live in a hurricane prone area, we are pretty much perpetually prepared. We could lose power and have to be holed up in our house, and we could be quite comfortable for at least a couple weeks. MUCH longer if needed by harvesting game in the local area. Probably the only thing I'll change (which really isn't much of a change at all) is to keep our vehicles full of fuel. I generally do that anyway, but I'll probably just be a little more vigilant about it for a while. And I forgot to fill my propane tanks. I usually keep 3 tanks on hand to rotate through the grill, but we've been VERY busy, so I've let all 3 go empty.

I figure it's too early to start cancelling things too (not that we have anything planned anyway), but we may make different decisions for travel later this year. One example is we were thinking of taking a cruise, we probably won't do that this year. So I think we'll focus more on RV travel where typically crowds are thinner for where we go and we can stay pretty much to ourselves. I don't particularly care for crowds anyway, so no biggie for me.

I thought I saw a teaser on the news this morning regarding Disney theme parks? Didn't catch the report though...

ETA: Definitely not time to panic. Panic doesn't help anyone. In fact, it's pretty annoying for those of us who just want to go on about our day. We need to do our normal grocery shopping tonight, and we'll likely be dodging the panicers...

I just looked up some CDC numbers for 2019 and the plain ole flu killed 14000. The deaths from coronavirus so far in the US seems to be people with lots of other health issues before getting virus.

As I understand, If your decsended from Europeans you got a pretty good immune system from them since they survived the Black Plague. I read somewhere the herb "thieves " ( sp ? ) was used by a lot of the survivors.
I'm not ready to panic , I'll wait on the next scare in week or two & decide then.

No concerns here.

I would personally avoid travel to China, Iran or Italy for the time being, more so because I don't want to be in a plane with 300 other people, 1 of which MAY have contracted something.

Other than that, life as normal. I don't buy into the hype, it doesn't help the situation.

Maybe I'm looking at the wrong data, but this site shows the 2018-2019 Flu season at 34,200 deaths.

Well, only 1/2 of them survived the black plague... so odds were not that great...

If the stock market keeps plunging, I won’t be able to afford to travel! Seriously, I don’t see any reason to do anything rash like hunkering down in my home. Just use common sense.

Makes no sense as community spread is more likely ie someone sneezing in the grocery store on the cart handle. And you are the next user.
Wipe down things that might have germs in public.. I do not bleach stuff at home though save for the toilet and handle.

Why wipe down handle on grocery cart when no telling how many people handled the same produce you are picking through!

We have been somewhat concerned. Instead of flying to Arizona and staying in hotels, we drove and stayed in our RV. Just another reason to vacation in an RV. Better yet, get time to go Boondocking and enjoying some solitude.

As far as Disneyland, my guess is the lines will be much shorter for awhile, I still wouldn’t go, even without a virus.

I’m not changing plans.
Most of us if not all RV in some manner, either drivable or towing and there are on average 1.25 million deaths in anto related incidents and that hasn’t stopped me from RVing.
